XV — Pop Culture (Mixtape)

A few days ago, XV dropped his latest masterful mixtape, Pop Culture.  It seems like Vizzy can do no wrong, at least when it comes to mixtapes.  While his upcoming EP, Awesome, can be pre-ordered here, I still eagerly await his first full-length album.  XV’s marketing “strategy” has always appeared to be to produce uncompromisingly high quality music, inarguably at the expense of gaining the fans from the pop masses.  In my opinion, he could easily have been converted into a “pop rapper” years ago, so I respect him to no end or staying true to his craft.  He has legions of absolutely loyal Squarians (read: devout XV followers), including myself.  Grab the mixtape below and support one of the truest out there.

Chip Tha Ripper — Yell Ya Friends (MIXTAPE)

We’re back!  It’s never a good idea just to up and go cold turkey but we needed the break in order to keep things fresh from here on out.  If you all are patient enough to become our patients once again, we will gratefully reward you with Chip Tha Ripper‘s new mixtape Yell Ya Friends.  Honestly, I have not yet had the chance to listen to it all the way through, but so far I like what I’ve heard and I know how many Chip fiends there are out there.  Click the link below for the jump and the download.  It’s good to be back!

Messy Marv – Baby

This is a bay area classic. Well maybe not a classic, but Messy Marv is known for makin’ slaps (bay slang for a JAM). This is an atypical style for him as he’s usually making songs that are a little harder. Either way this track is bomb and I’m sure we all can relate.

Mike Posner — The Layover (MIXTAPE)

Not my personal favorite, but people seem to love Mike Posner.  Lucky for him, a number   of artists I do enjoy decided to jump on Posner’s tracklist for his latest mixtape, The Layover.  Features include the likes of Big K.R.I.T, CyHi, Bun B, and more…even Michael Franti (which is crazy, in my opinion).  Check out the tracklist and if you’re feeling it, make the jump for the download link.  Enjoy!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Lupe Fiasco — The Cool

To this day, this is one of the most beautifully crafted hip-hop tracks I have ever heard.  Lupe Fiasco’s storytelling abilities truly shine on The Cool, taking us through a recently-shot man’s experience as he views the world from a new perspective (as the living dead).  The man walks through his old “hood” and observes the stereotypical reality of what got him killed in the first place.  A masterpiece.  Enjoy the weekend!
